Barbara Steiniche
When you can find Barbara Steiniche in a quiet
moment, you might just be able to get her to share her experiences
and perspective on life. She doesn’t have a lot
of spare time. After her early morning walk before breakfast,
Barbara
heads to an exercise class and then on to the painting course
she is auditing at MWSU. After that, she is often seen as a bleacher
bum cheering on her granddaughter, whether for basketball or
volleyball.
If that’s not enough, Barbara fills her time with her schoolwork,
enjoying the art museum weekly, practicing her music on the organ,
or reading in preparation for her monthly book club. She still
travels and visits her daughter in Colorado, her brother in Seattle,
and her son in Chicago. Barbara especially enjoyed an ElderHostel
trip last April to Phoenix, where they explored Frank Lloyd Wright’s
western home and the local symphony.
Barbara moved to Living Community from Boulder, Colorado, after
living in Dwight, IL for 57 years. Her son teaches at MWSU and
Barbara wanted to be near family and be in a location where she
could get out, walk, and enjoy the different landscape and climate.
As a retired dietician, Barbara appreciates the meals provided,
but still uses her full kitchen to make cookies and blueberry
pancakes for her son.
